Like Father, Like Son (2013)

I didn’t know what to expect with this film. I have never before seen a Japanese film that wasn’t animated therefore I went into the screening intrigued to what I would see. The plot itself is based around wealthy business man Ryoto Nonomiya and his wife, who discover that their 6 year old son Keita isn’t biologically related to them. What follows is a dramatic storyline, which makes the family choose; whether they will exchange Keita for their real son, or keep the boy they have raised.

The compelling story itself was interesting, as it made you think what would you do if you were put in that moral dilemma and its realistic themes within this motion picture made it entertaining as it kept you guessing as to what would happen next. I would recommend this film because despite its lengthy duration, it included intriguing dramatic elements throughout, how it also included comic moments and due to the believable acting of both the parents (Masaharu Fukuyama as Ryoto and Machiko Ono as Midori) and the children. A wonderful little film with fantastic visuals and an imaginative plot.
