Inside Out (2015)
From the outset, I wanted to see this film. The trailer fascinated me, as being a big Disney/Pixar fan I’m always excited to see what they will produce next. Having said that, admittedly, I have not been THAT impressed with the last few films (mostly produced by just Disney themselves) as I find, that they have succumbed to simply releasing a series of sequels - instead of any real original ideas. By pairing up with Pixar however, I was interested to see what the film would be like and whether it would match up to its exciting trailer.
I was not disappointed.
With having successes with films such as the classic Toy Story my expectations were undoubtedly high. So, earlier today I went to see this film and I will tell you now, I think that this is one of the best-animated films I have seen in years. Firstly, the concept of the film is different and unique; never mind humorous from the outset.
The story is based around a young girl called ‘Riley’, seeing her from birth to 12 years old. The audience is taken on an adventure inside the girl’s head in which all emotions are displayed and true thoughts are seen. Following joy, sadness, disgust, fear and anger the audience is granted access into how the human brain works; showing where long-term memories and core memories are stored and where our emotions take control.
So that’s the short of it.
Overall I was surprised with how much depth the film had- making me both laugh and even cry. This film will take you on an adventure into which realistic themes are presented, but at the same time-appeals to the child inside all of us. What I find most intellectual about Pixar films is although initially, they are targeted at children, the themes within them are something that would be understood most clearly by either older children or adults.
Now, a quick note about the CG animation.
Not only is the story itself both interesting and conceptual but the animation is AMAZING. With such a reputation, it is clear that this would be top-notch, but the realistic features and colours are something to definitely be credited. It is honestly amazing how someone can use technology in order to create things such as a ‘glow’ on an animated character, allow them to have glitter in their hair and also simply make something look so realistic that it is hard to believe it is computer generated.
Basically, I would 100% recommend you to see this film.
