Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
I'm not the biggest Marvel fan, and have not seen all of the films but the majority of the one's I have, I really enjoyed.
I am a big Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor fan (bar The Dark World of course), so the thought of all of the characters being in the same film both intrigued and excited me. I was interested to see how they would fit everyone in and was really looking forward to the amazing SFX and battle scenes. The one thing I would say, before I get into my review, is that I wish in a way I'd have seen Black Panther before watching this as I feel I would have connected with the Wakanda scene more. I would also would have liked to see Dr. Strange, as although I'm not a Benedict Cumberbatch fan, his character was amazing so it would have been cool to see his solo movie.
But anyhow, on to my review!
But before that...just quickly -
I was not ready for the raw emotion of this film. Each scene was epic, brilliantly filmed and had me on the edge of my seat; in my opinion, it is the best Marvel film so far (well out of the ones I have seen anyhow).
The Plot.
Evil tyrant Thanos (played by Josh Brolin) is back, equipped with the infinity gauntlet that he is trying to gather all of the stones for. Each of the infinity stones are spread across the universe - bringing each of the Marvel characters into the story. No spoilers about where they are, but the characters that have them have to try and protect the stone with their life or reality as they know it will cease to exist. Each of the stones control a different part of the universe, from time to soul and reality; there are 6 in total. The corrupt villain wants to destroy half of the universe, as he believes it to be merciful and the best way for each population to survive.
Seeing each of the characters interact, who before this moment had no contact is fascinating. As they come together to protect the stones, there are some incredible action scenes and sadly, scenes of despair. The Marvel universe as you know it is transformed, with unimaginable and heartbreaking results. It almost had me in tears as things happen that you don't expect or wouldn't believe. It will 100% have you wanting to jump into the screen and try and kill Thanos yourself. Each character has their own strength and 'power', making the way they work together cinema gold.
It's so hard to write this review without spoilers, but all I will say is that I loved this film. Every moment is thrilling and has your heart pounding. Of course the cast is amazing, from Chris Hemsworth, to Robert Downey Jr. to Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, etc. etc. etc. In total there are 76 characters. 76. If you have yet to see this, you can imagine how epic it is - simply from that statistic.
I would 10000% recommend this, to people who love Marvel and for those who don't. There are so many different parts to this film that yes, you need to concentrate in, but the 2hr 30m run time is more than worth it. It will take you on an adventure across galaxies with all of your favourite characters with amazing surroundings and some comedic moments. I can't wait to see this again.
Oh and of course the Stan Lee cameo as always was incredible.
